It was mountaineering that drew Richard Berry to photography. At first, he simply wanted to record his adventures but he soon enjoyed photographing the landscapes around him. Prior to an expedition to the Himalayas, his brother, Chris, a professional photographer, taught Richard how to use a Nikon FM SLR.

Richard took the camera along with him, and, inspired by the Himalayas, he discovered that he had an eye for creating photographs. He candidly remarks that the results from that trip are a testament to how well Chris taught him.

In 2004 Richard left a successful career in the oil industry to become a professional photographer. He now lives in Canmore, Alberta with his wife and two young daughters. He specializes in nature, travel, panoramic and stock photography. His stock photographs can be found on Corbis, Getty Images and other prestigious agencies.

Teaching photography is another of Richard’s passions and he teaches a variety of photography and digital imaging workshops which have proven to be very successful and rewarding for all concerned. Richard has taught workshops and photography classes for Rocky Mountaineer Vacations, Conoco Phillips, Chateau Lake Louise, Bow Valley College, the Alpine Club of Canada, and The Banff Centre amongst others.

He has also led photo tours around Canada, the United States and Ecuador.

Richard’s fine art photographs can be seen in private and public collections around the world.

Richard’s goals are; to inspire others, share his knowledge and to show the beauty of our natural world.
